Info re Shangrila Hotel

Hi

Have booked into the shangrila hotel just north of the palace. Can anyone please advise is this a good location? Is it close walking distance to good eating, markets, sights etc. How far is it from Thamel? And I suppose is it an OK hotel?

I have stayed at the Shangri La a couple of times. Try to request a room on the higher floors as they are far superior to the 1st floor which are very ordinary. I asked for an upgrade was given one immediately.

The gardens at Shangri La are the main feature and a beautiful place to eat breakfast.

We walked into Thamel from here every day but taxis were always available and v. cheap. Lazimpat is a good location and I really liked the area and walk into Thamel - maybe 15 minutes walk. Very interesting.

The Lazimpat Cafe between Shangri La and the Palace on the main road (same side as Shangri La) is a cool place to hang out.

There is also a really nice restaurant/bar almost opposite Shangri La in the direction of the Palace. Can%26#39;t remember its name (!) but its the only one!

I can also recommend the restaurant upstairs at The Shangri La.
