Tiger Tops Tended Camp, Chitwan

We were really disappointed to read the latest review of the Tiger Tops Tented Camp at Chitwan by an American visitor. Of course we have sympathy that things did not work out quite as they hoped or expected, but it is really disappointing to read a review of a tented camp, in the middle of the Chitwan, with no electricity etc etc which complains about spiders, and the jungle noises at night! The Camp makes the absence of electricity very clear, and not surprisingly does not think to mention that, in the jungle, you hear jungle noises. And sure, the English spoken by the staff is a bit patchy, but we had no trouble at all, either way. In fact, the staff were charming. helpful and positive - and only the elephant ';mahouts'; found communications in English difficult.

It is really sad to read a review of a visit to a camp where the chance of seeing an increasingly rare Bengal tiger is the key target for the stay which concludes that they were ';thankful'; that they did not see a tiger. And the camp is very far from being a ';tented city'; - it is small, well cared for, intimate, and atmospheric. And sure, a bit basic, but what do you expect when you stay in tents in the jungle??

In saying this I am not of course criticising the reviewer, who obviously would have been happier elsewhere. It is just so sad to see Nepalese people criticised for trying to provide holiday experiences that are eco-friendly, involve local villagers, and are not packaged into some sort of westernised vacuum. Its a great place - go there and enjoy the wildlife, large or small, and even the noisy ones!

Hi Mike. Guess you can%26#39;t please everyone. From reading various reviews on TA you get to realise that what someone would take as part of the experience and go along with it, another would take great exception to. A review of one of the lodges that we stayed at in Kenya complained about hyenas howling outside their door. Errr, excuse me, are we not staying in the midst of the African bush here??? Likewise, to hear wildlife noises during your night in a tent will rate high on my list of experiences when we stay at this site in October. Yet to someone else it becomes a grievance. Again, I am passing no critisism of the reviewer, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Some things go wrong that make for a great laugh afterwards. I go to these countries and make allowances for their English being not so great, things not always going to plan, etc. If the bed sheets were dirty or the food inedible, sure, I would complain. We are the lucky ones who are able to travel to these places so I think we should think ourselves very fortunate for the opportunity.

And despite the latest review, I can%26#39;t wait!!

Hi again!

I could not agree more with what you say. Hope you have a great time in Nepal.
