Diverting to Nepal?

Hello, my fiance and I are planning a honemoon trip to India in Sept. of 2008 and are considering taking a side trip to Nepal for about 4 days. Firstly, would anyone consider doing this or is it not worth it for such a short stay? Secondly, we are not into mountain hiking but more into shopping and cultural things. Would Kathmandu be good for 4 days or would we tire of it too quickly? Are there other things near Kathmandu that we could see/do within a four day time frame? Any help would be appreciated? Also, is there a train from Dehli to Kathmandu?

Scarlata:

I think a side trip to Kathmandu would be a good idea. In early November of 2004, my wife and I spent three days in Kathmandu while on our trip to India. We flew from Delhi to Kathmandu on a Wednesday and returned on a Saturday. There are more than enough things to see and do in Kathmandu and it%26#39;s sorrounding areas to keep you pleasantly occupied. In addition to day tours, we took the Everest mountain flight. Take some time to review this forum to get some idea of the places to visit. We had a guide and driver which worked out well in our case. Again, I would definately recommend you taking the trip - we had such a great time that we returned in 2006 and used Kathmandu as the starting and ending point for our trip to Tibet.

Regarding the train, in reading this forum there is a train to the Nepal border, then you have to take a bus from there to Kathmandu. If you are under time constraints, you%26#39;re probably better off flying. We went on Royal Nepal Airways and had no difficulties either way. After reading some of the forums, we were probably the lucky ones. I think one of the Indian airlines also has flights from Delhi to Kathmandu. Have a nice trip and honeymoon!
