A gentle tour of Nepal

We would like to do an organised tour of Nepal. We 60 and 54 and have done some walking in our time( Yosemitie, Majorca and the Lakes but not sure if we are up to it or want to in Nepal. What we would like is an organised tour at the right time of year. iI understand that FEB/Mar or Oct/ Nov will mean we escape the rains. Can anyone say what the weather will be like ,what the temperaature will be like etc.

I think we are looking at a ';classic Tour'; Katmandu pokhara etc.

We are also a bit woried about the food as one of us suffers from gippy tummy

Reading this makes up sound like to old crocks we are not. We are just back from Vietnam and travel a lot China, India etc but I have always found planning is the key to a good trip.

Tripadvisors out there have helped us get our holidays right so far..we have always gone at the best time of year for the weather etc and by going on organised trips have managed witht eh food.

This would be a dream holiday for us so we look forward to receiving your help. hank you from a sunny English Lake District!!!!

Yes it%26#39;s perfect to do classic tour in kathmandu and pokhara. As both of you were at the age of 60 and 54 respectively , it%26#39;s good to do such tour. October and november is the perfect time/season to do trekking in Nepal. Maximum temperature is around 22 degree celsius where as minimum is 12 degree celsius, weather conditons will be clear and beautiful to take photograph. There is lots of good hotel in kathmandu as well as in pokhara with good and hygenic food.

cheers

A gentle tour of Nepal

Hi Graney:

My wife and I are in our early 60%26#39;s and have taken two trips to Nepal in late October/early November. It was dry and mostly clear both times. Be advised that Kathmandu is in a valley and the air can be quite polluted when the wind isn%26#39;t blowing. It is at 4,500 ft., so altitude is not a problem. The first trip was in 2004 in the Kathmandu area as part of our trip to the golden triangle area of India. A company called Plesant Holidays organized the trip and used Yeti Travel in Kathmandu as the local agent. Our guide was Sahadev Panday who is affiliated with that firm. We toured the usual greater Kathmandu sights and spent a delightful day walking in the countryside and ended up with tea at sunset at the Dhukliel Mountain Resort. We stayed at the Yak and Yeti. We never had any food problems. On that visit we also did the Everest flight. If we had more time we would have gone on to Pokhra.

When we were putting together our October/November 2006 trip to Bangkok, Kathmandu, Tibet and Saigon, we asked Sahadev ( who we became friends with) to coordinate the Nepal and Tibet portions. We did spend a couple of days in Kathmandu at the beginning and end of our trip. We stayed at the Hyatt, because Dwarka%26#39;s Hotel was full. It was fine. On the way back from Tibet we spent a night at the Dhulkiel Mountain resort where the views are out of this world. Both times we ate in local establishments and had no problems, nor did we have any during our eight days in Tibet.

I think you%26#39;ll really enjoy your stay, and there are other folks on this forum that can give you advice as to other reliable agencies. We found this forum invaluable in putting together earlier trips to China and India along with more recent one. Because of this we encountered very few surprises, and was extremely helpful in ferreting out the various scams that one encounters on these trips. Am now in the process of putting something together for Rome and Florence this October.

Hi Graney,

We%26#39;ve been to Nepal in October, and the weather was perfect, to a bit hot ( in the south, Chitwan).Mostly a bit cool in the evenings.

About food: if you eat only cooked things, you should be safe. In Kathmandu there are some restaurants which advertise that their fresh salads are cleaned with iodined water, and we loved to eat something fresh. No belly-problems. Just drink only bottled water, be sure the cap was locked, no ice-cubes or drinks mixed with water.

Our trip was organised by Intertreks. Have a look at their site, ask your questions and see if you like the answers.

hi graney,

i was in kathmandu 1st week of january this year ... weather was slightly cold at night (i come from singapore - hot and humid country) ... but according to the locals, that time was good coz there won%26#39;t be rain

day time temperature was quite nice and cooling ... i estimated at around 10 to 15 degrees celsius or so.

was staying at hyatt regency ... 5 minutes walk to boudhanath ... if you are thinking of booking this hotel, make sure you request for a room facing the boudhanath - its quite nice

hyatt %26amp; boudhanath %26amp; a temple called ';shechen'; (also nearby)
