Varanasi India vs Kathmandu

We have to decide whether to stay in India and go to Varanasi or skip Varanasi and so to Kathmandu---has anyone been to both places ? Should we just stay in India. We will only have 3 nights in Kathmandu

i%26#39;ve been to both - go to varanasi...it%26#39;s one of my all time favorite places in the world. i love kathmandu too, but you%26#39;d need more time to adjust to the culture to start to understand nepal. varanasi will blow your mind, really. the photographic opportunities are amazing. stay in the %26#39;old city%26#39; it has 2 meter wide streets that are windy and deleriously exotic. i%26#39;m jealous, would love to go back. smells, sounds, colors...love it!

thanks for your reply rhe only problem ia that all the tours only go there for 1 night and you also have to go to Khajuraho for 2 nights. I hate missing Nepal but to go to everything seems like an ehausting trip. Did you do everything on your own?

yes, I did it on my own. Just get the Lonely planet guidebook - that is really all you need. It%26#39;s super easy. I do remember that the train from delhi to V was like 13 hrs long, but honestly, that was one of the highlights to my trip: i was the only westerner on the whole darn train and it was a wonderful peek into the lives of Indian families - they all travel by train...don%26#39;t go first class, don%26#39;t go bottom class - get a sleeper (fold down cushioned bench). someone comes by periodically selling food, and you can %26#39;rent%26#39; a clean pillow and blanket. It really was fabulous. You can also fly there.

You really don%26#39;t need to do a tour!

Just three days is not enough for Nepal. Come back once again for Nepal trip. It is a very beautiful country.

For India you can follow the route as Agra - Orchha - Khajuraho - Varanasi.
