Volunteering at orphanage

Anything you wish you had brought from US?

Is it easy to do money eschange?

Is bottled water readily available?

Need mosquito nets? Anything specifically we should bring with?

We are 2 college girls.

Where in Nepal are you going to be? The answers to your questions will be quite different if you will be in a larger city or remote village.

Volunteering at orphanage

it is easy to exchange money in major cities, border crossings and towns with some tourist flows. But it is advisable that you do the exchange in Kathmandu or other major cities and not to take the risk.

Bottled water is available in most of the cities. But if you are staying in a orphanage in cities, you might consider having mineral water from the jar (20 liters and it costs less to you - a dollar per jar- and the impact on the environment will be less as well).

You need not bring mosquito nets from the US. They are readily available in Nepal and are very chepa, around 2-3 dollars. In most places, you need a mosquito net.

When are you going and what organisation are you volunteering with? You will need to give us more information about where you are staying and if you are planning on going to a privately run orphanage I would very strongly recommend against doing it. I volunteered last year and would be happy to give you some tips if you would like...
