Hello,
I would like to do a one to two week treck in the Himalya region in Mai 2008 with rather good accommondation, if possible.
Does anyone have recommendations of a local tour operator and how much would that cost?
Thanks in advance.
Dieter
Begrinners Trek in HimalayaI used a guide named Sushil Khadka, one of the owners of the Sagarmatha guesthouse in Jiri. I highly recommend him. You can email him in advance at sushil44@hotmail.com and I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;d even meet you at the Kathmandu airport if you wanted.
Otherwise, I wouldn%26#39;t sweat trying to find a local person in advance. Every two out of three men in Nepal will claim to be a trekking guide, and I know I had trouble keeping up with just about any of them. Talk for awhile to get to know them, pick their brain about a few things and then decide to use them or not.
I highly recommend using locals over larger companies. The locals are all so very friendly and really live and die by the trekkers they work for. Even if you don%26#39;t need one, it%26#39;s not much money and they make great company. You%26#39;ll probably end up being their email friend forever!

I have travelled with both and heartily recommend. Cost will depend on what you do/where you go.
As i have already done my trip in Himalya region, especially in Annapurna region throuhg the company of Skyine Treks, in my personal belief Skyline trek really good local trekking and tour operator. This is only for the personal recommendation not inaspect to do advertisement.

Word of mouth is the best way to find a guide. Try to find people in your hometown who have been and ask for recommendations. A good website to access tour information is at:

One thing I would say is even if you%26#39;re a beginner, don%26#39;t pick a trek because it looks ';easy';. If you%26#39;re of a moderate level of fitness then virtually any of the treks in Nepal will be accessible to you.
