Has anyone traveled to Nepal alone, without a tour?
are local tours easy to find once I arrive.
This is part of an around the world adventure next year. I am not able to hike but can walk 4 to 6 miles at a time.
I know i will have the altitude to deal with, any other challenges that I need to plan for? I plan to do some volunteer work while i am there and would like to visit with aratisan if possible. Suggestions?
My suggestion to others planning a ';life experience';, dont wait until you may not be able to enjoy it.

Hi!
Just a bit of encouragement: there is absolutely no problem of travelling without tour. You can travel alone ( usually not recommended but possible) or hire a personal guide, it is not expensive and much nicer. Kathmandu is swarming with agencies; you can arrange everything being there if you are not in a hurry (I believe you are not). May be, better to find some reliable recommendations before on Internet. They definitely can help you with other things - everybody knows everybody there and most people speak English. And there is one more good
site for Nepal:

Thank you for taking the time to answer. this was not a very ';exciting'; question.
the web site you gave me has great information and with the months i have to plan my trip i should be able to find some wonderful ideas.
Have found a monestary outside of K. that takes english teachers for 2 week periods and am thinking of starting there.
i will not be treking but hope to spend my time understanding the life in Nepal.
If you ever plan to travel to Italy, let me know. I can help you there!
