Small plane ride from Kathmandu to see Everest

N Wales:

During a three day visit to Kathmandu the first week of November of 2004 we took the mountain flight. As Cornepal related the price is about $125 US ( a good deal in pound sterling!!). As he also said, they are offered by Budda Air and Yeti Air. They leave from the domestic terminal about 7:00 AM in the morning when the air is most clear. It%26#39;s really quite comical as there are as many as 10 - 15 flights taking off - one after the other! You ride in a 20 seat propeller plane. So, on the trip up one side gets a view and on the return trip the other side does the same. You don%26#39;t actually go beside Everest, but at a distance. During the flight each person is invited into the cockpit to get better pictures. On the morning we flew, the weather was clear. My recommendation - take the flight, the views are incredible. Also, if you are using a guide or travel service, they can arrange the flight. Otherwise, your hotel can also set it up. As a post script, when we flew from Kathmandu to Lhasa last October, we got an even closer view of Everest from the left side of the plane!

Small plane ride from Kathmandu to see Everest

Hi

I did one of these flights in 2002 on my first visit to Nepal. Well worth doing as you get a great view of the Everest range with out the heartstopping landing at Lukla!!

As the previous poster says, try to sit on the left handside of the plane as you come into Nepal as the views are wonderful.

Yea,I am agree with Dukla.

The advice from Blue Phantom is correct. I enjoyed the flight, BUT it was in fact only some 45 minutes, and you do not get very close to Everest. However, how else do you get to se this fantastic sight?

And overall it is quite an experience. Your hotel will advise on flights, but in fact they seem to take off from about 5.30am through to about 10.00, after which it becomes too misty.

Do not expect to get close, and it is rather expensive,.... but hell, you only live once! Put the zoom on the camera, and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime view!

Is there a toilet on-board?

I have thimble-bladder disease.
