safety concerns for Kathmandu and Nepal

We are in our initial steps for planning our July vacation and are considering Nepal for around a week and a half (or China for 2 weeks).

Been to Nepal twice (for convention and with family around 1997 and 2001) and loved it very much (especially bhaktapur)

Just wanted to know about the current peace and order situation in Kathmandu as we are also ';known'; for a certain peace and order situation as well (here in the Philippines)

Also, any reviews of Manang, Marsyangdi, Thamel as well as Mountain, Kantipath would be most helpful. Love or Loathe?

Super thanks

You can safely visit nepal now. You may already know that the major problem for peace in nepal was Maowest but now they are in government and all the weapons are locked up by UN. For you information there are 75 districts in Nepal and in 3-4 district of Terai region has some local problems of strikes and by the way these district are generally not visited by 99% tourist who come nepal.

good luck to your trip.

safety concerns for Kathmandu and Nepal

Just returned from kathmandu with 2 kids and its dead safe ( i was worried at first) take a trip to chitwan its great , Maoiststs are pretty happy saw a huge march of Maoists going through Kathmandu and they all were pretty happy i would recommend staying at Park Village hotel at Budhanilkantha ( has a pool ) and is 5 mins walk from Sleeping vishnu we went on a sat morning and saw an amazing festival . Thamel is fun and good for shopping we used the Kathmandu Guest house as a good base for getting taxis .. if you need a name of a good guide let me know we met him by conincident in Chitwan and he was really understandable as we has two kids who found the Culture change strange also he knows some Really cool Holy men who we spent hours with just chatting and drinking their tea well worth givibg him and email

Hi,

Just returned from Nepal where I did the Annapurna circuit. Nepal is pretty safe and even Kathmandu feels much safer than most UK cities. The biggest problem in Kathmandu is the traffic and probably your greatest danger is getting run over crossing the road.

Saw loads of Maosists on the circuit and they were no trouble whatsover - they just marched, chanted and waved flags. They all seemed very friendly, so you have no concerns there.

The first half of our walk was up the Marsyangdi valley through Manang and then onto the Thorung La. The scenery is increible there. I have written a more in depth review on another site, which you can see at:

As i had finished my trekking just before a couple of month and i don%26#39;t have found any problem reagarding to the maoists and the government. people used to say sitaution is quite improve and people can explore anyplace or any region they prefer.

cheers
