elections

Hi

We are traveling to Khatmandu end of March to 2nd April are the forthcoming elections likely to cause us any problems

elections

Elections have been scheduled and postponed a few times already. Maybe they will not happen ! On the other hand there is permanent unrest in Nepal right now. Not dangerous for tourists but inconveient. Was there in October and then in February. Power cuts went from 4-5 hours a day to 8 hours and petrol was still hard to get causing some schools and businesses to close. Lots of traffic in KTM due to this. Maoists demonstrations and strikes were rare and you could avoid them. If I did not have to go to Nepal for personal reasons, I would choose a different destination these days.

Hi, we have just got back and there is much talk og the elections (Aprl 10th)

There was ageneral strike and petrol rationing which did cause problems travelling around the country.

I would say; just be careful and check with the FCO to make sure your insurance will be valid etc.

Why Nepal? Now? It%26#39;s a horrible mess and Kathmandu Valley totally unmanaged. Thought of the Indian Himalaya?

la photographe is right on. But power cuts will probably go up to 11 hours a day until monsoon comes. Bandhs could also affect land travel. demonstrations and police DO get violent, so stay away.
