Sorry, don%26#39;t mean to be negative, only truthful. It is far worse today than it was back in my younger days when I would often travel between the two cities... as we have businesses in both. My answer is NO. It is not the safest way. The roads are plagued with accidents and closures, closures due to political problems by the Madhesis or Maoist, and in monsoon, oftentimes closed by landslides. If there is an accident involving death, local people will often close the road down (chakkajam) for hours and hours until the family gets paid money. Night busses are even worse where the driver falls asleep, either because he is tired, or he%26#39;s been drinking alcohol. Every week you can read where busses drive off the mountain and all the passengers are killed. If you decide to take a bus, then this is the risks you face. And if you do, then choose a mini-bus or one of the private taxis you can hire to and from the border. It will be safer, although you are still subject to road closures.
