Hi,
How cheap can you buy wind/waterproof jackets in Kathmandu? We are doing a 5day trek in the Annapurna ranges (camping) in late march.We are not sure if we are game enough to wait until we arrive to buy them.
Has anyone any experience with Himalayan Encounters, we have booked with them.

best place to purchase clothing is shonas in kathmandhu (opposite Kilroys in Thamelin Kathmandhu)
quality is great ,you might get cheaper elsewhere but quality not great
I bought in Nov,sleeping bagæ‹¢50,down jacketæ‹¢25 from there whilst doing everset BC with Himalyan Encounters,
we had a great trip,what we had requested we got at the agreed price no hidden extras,
staff spoke English,helpful and considerate,went out of their way to solve our return flights issue with jetairlines
Himalyan Encounters are used by uk companies such as the Adventure Company for their organised group trips
their star man is Jimmi,our guide was Little Bimh who i would recomend as being knowlegeable and gives you plenty of time,ready for advice
if you are doing the trip independantly you would be following a set route that other groups use and would end up shadowing said group
