kathmandu guest house

I am a 50 year old traveling in November with another younger person. Have had recomendation of the Kathmandu Guest house. Seems to be alot of negative about the place now. My mother travelled there 10 years ago and seemed to be the place to be.

Any ideas of clean, central places to stay for 5 or 6 days with alittle character of Nepal.

Have a look at Tibet Guest House.

Never stayed at Kathmandu Guest House but had a drink there and watched a film in its tiny cinema. Seemed like a nice enough place.

I stayed at Tibet Guest House several years ago, and it was fine as a budget option.

The Shanker is also worth a look.

Hi we stayed at the kathmandu sister house which is a taxi ride out but very near a great shrine called sleeping vishnu

the hotel is called Park Village and has beautiful grounds and a swimming pool which was a must for our 2 kids aged 12 %26amp;amp; 10 nepal was a bit of a cultre shock for our kids but they loved it . if you want to know any thing else drop us a line %26amp;lt; wish we were going again

I stayed at the KGH for five nights last October and thought it was fine. My first night was stuck in a US$20 room that had been arranged for me, on the second floor over a pigeon coop and adjoining a private home that was entirely noisy. The hotel staff was apologetic and I got a garden-view room the rest of the time for $30 which was just fine. I

KGH is older, which means charming, but it takes so little to make me happy: a hot shower to wash my hair and Internet to write to my husband.

I am female, 53, was traveling alone but had friends in Kathmandu and a friend at KGH, so it really wasn%26#39;t scary at all. I liked the history and that KGH was a traveling experience in itself. The Internet room always had a computer available to me, and that was important.

There was an assortment of people leftover from the %26#39;60s, which was interesting, too, The live-and-let-live attitude of people who didn%26#39;t control their children got very old, but what can you do? I am returning in October and will probably stay there again. I was happy in Kathmandu.

Hotel Tradition in Thamel is nice, clean and fairly inexpensive. Not exactly character of Nepal. Thamel is so touristy, kind of like Waikiki in Honolulu.

I stayed at Hotel Tradition in June of this year and will be going back in October.

I always stay at the Tibet Peace Guest House just outside Thamel (literally just across the main road)

It%26#39;s about 100 meters up a small track so there is no passing traffic.

It%26#39;s has a big garden and has a very homely feel with regular long term guests. It%26#39;s a budget place so it%26#39;s quite basic but functional and the staff are on the ball.

Further up the same track is the Kathmandu Peace Guest House which would be my second choice if TPGH is full.

Last year another place had sprung up nest to KPGH which was more upmarket and there was construction of another place next to TPGH which looked like it was going to be similarly upmarket.

The location is great because you are outside of all the madness of Thamel but a few minutes walk to all its amenities.
