The Thamel area in KTM is the only area I know of that sells items as you describe made by the Neplalese. Other areas of KTM seem to sell only foreign-made goods. The shops in Nepal will require some careful and savy price negotiating on your part. Be prepared to walk out of the shop if the shop owner does not give you a cheap price. When I do this, they agree with my price 9 out of 10 times; they want your business. I would start at one-half of the price they are asking for the item and go from there. Also, a huge benefit is if you are going off-season. You can get much cheaper prices when there are not the usual hundreds of tourists roaming around KTM (Thamel).

Be careful to read all tags on the clothing, etc. Some are made in India and some are made in the USA, for instance.

Good luck!
