village stay

We would like to stay in a village with a family to learn more about every day life in Nepal. Has anyone done this? Has anyone got any suggestions about organising this before we go to Nepal?

village stay

Hi. My best advice is to stay away in a farmhouse situation in a village outside of Kathmandu valley and then relate to the people around you. I am thinking that you look up specialty lodging under Dhulikel hotel of tripadvisor.com for this place Apa Villa Phulbari. This is a working farm with rooms and meals for foreign guests set in a village with schools nearby. You can learn so much from the staff as they all live within close proximity. You will learn about the caste system, the various ethnic groups as Nepalis are diverse and chance upon some who can speak English reasonably well.

Most villagers are very poor and sleep in one room without a guest room or proper toilet/bath arrangement for an individual. Even though these villagers are overwhelming friendly when you visit them, staying for an extended period will be a strain for the family to look after you.

Hope that you will find the best situation when you visit Nepal.

How long are you planning to stay in Nepal?

If you will be staying for a few weeks or longer, you could look at doing some sort of volunteer program. There are a number of organizations that will set you up with some sort of training and a placement in a remote village. Note that many of these charge a fee to help cover their administration costs and to pay the family that you will be staying with.

Hello Ponky

Really it will be nice experienced to stay in village with family to live/learn their daily habitat. lots of visitor tend to do this sort of trip and it is surely possible, no dobut about that, for this you have to pay for your daily accomodation.
