Trekking Annapurna Circuit - Organised tour or local guide?

Myself and a couple of friends are looking to go trekking in Nepal in Sept-0ct 08, possibly to do the Annapurna circuit.

Is it best to go with on a pre-organised tour (any good company suggestions?) or is it best to make our own way to the region and arrange a local guide once we%26#39;re there?

It is our first trekking trip and first visit to the region, any suggestions and recommendations would be gratefully receieved!

I just finished my visit in Nepal, with group friends We visited Kathmandu Valley and did trekking around Annapurna. Amazing country and beautiful mountains!

Now I would recommend hiring the guide directly. We are really enjoyed of our local guide - Excellent organisation, well speak english, have good porters for us, big experience of trekking not only arround annapurna, know good places for sleep and eat (not expensive!) and many, many places you should view on your way!

I have suggestion for you go yourself to Kathmandu - it is easy even

if you first visit, and next take local guide, for example main. His supervision started even on the kathmandu airport if you want! And is really very good!

Emily, may I ask you how much one should expect to pay to a guide per day (sb quoted $6 per day but it was a year ago) and if we are two people how the sum will change? Also, how much should you expect to pay Teahouses per night. Thank you.

ony my way price for one nigt for double room was about 120-220Rs (=2-4$), but is really comfortable to have local guide withch help you find good accomodation in good price, in season there is more and more excursionists; for guide 6$ was insufficient this year, twice more, but i%26#39;m not sure if it depends of count people in a group, i think if you take guide talk to him about price earlier and keep the price, but after treks remember also about gratuity with is customary everywhere in nepal.
