You can drive in to the base camp on the Tibet side; many Kathmandu-Lhasa overland trips stop there on the way. From the Nepal side, you%26#39;ll need to trek for at least a couple of weeks to get to EBC and back, or be satisfied to see Everest from the air.

Thanks ; have seen Everest fromt he air on Nepal side; I will go from Tibet mc

You%26#39;re welcome. If you decide to visit the Tibet side, it%26#39;s better for acclimatization to spend a few days in Lhasa before doing the overland trip to everest (which usually takes another few days). If you start in Kathmandu, you will have little time to acclimatize before reaching base camp at over 5000m elevation (and some other high passes).

thnx again; now we have to decide if we want to get a (Tibetan if opossible) guide or go w someone like GAP or JMGTibetTours. and pick a time, try to turn in miles etc etc; lots still to do mc

We booked a Lhasa-Kathmandu tour through a Kathmandu-based agency. (It turned out that they contracted out the Tibet part of the tour to another agency in Lhasa.) If your schedule is flexible, it looked like it would be pretty easy to organize/join a tour in Lhasa; there were lots of notes posted around guesthouses and travel agencies from people looking for others to join their trip.
