Everest Base Camp and Island Peak

Ok thinking of doing this with hubbie next March. Have found what seems good company in Nepal _ Mountain Monarch (had emails from clients in UK).

Only question is have never trekked anything higher than Snowdon and nothing in the snow.

Have been advised as long as there are adequate acclimatization rest days and you are phyically fit then prior experience in high altitude trekking is not necessary nor is peak climbing.

Have been advised about diamox for AMS together with HAPE and HACE. MM staff are all fully trained and carry a Portable Altitude Chamber along with comprehensive medical kit.

Any suggestions would be appreicated.

Have thought about basic mountaining weekend course to at least have some knowledge.

Everest Base Camp and Island Peak

have trekked in Nepal In March ,higher risk of snow than when i went in November to Everest BC,only saw snow falling for 5 minutes

re AMS its amatter of pacing yourself, rest day at namche baazar then again higher up, its not a route that you can sprint up without side effects

fluid intake is important too

I used himalayan encounters who i would recomend ,poor website but they always reply to emails and you get what you paid for, they provide the arrangementsin Nepal for the adventure company,

we were around$725 for 2nights accomodation post and after trek, return flights to lukla, guide and porter, tea lodge accomodation on trek with an extra accimilisation day included, breakfast provided, airport transfers and a city tour of Kathmandhu

they also dont make the guide pay there own air fare
