Camera Equipment for Everest Trek

I am travelling to Nepal during the October/November treking season for a 17 day walk up to Everest Base Camp. Considering the variety of the subject matter (mountains to moss) and lack of recharging opportunities in the countryside etc. What would be the most appropriate camera to take? I have a 8mg digital and a SLR (film) Minolta. Can the digital camera (small and light weight) do the subject justice? What has worked well for others?

Camera Novice.

Camera Equipment for Everest Trek

We took two cameras: Nikon D40X SLR %26amp; Nikon Coolpix. The coolpix served well for random pictures, but I was really glad we took the SLR (18-200 lens)along for up close shots of peaks in the distance. The point %26amp; shoot camera just didn%26#39;t capture the scenery the way the SLR did. Filters are also a good idea because of the bright sunlight reflecting off of the snow. We had to change camera settings so our pictures didn%26#39;t look washed out. I highly recommend taking a camera cleaning kit/brush as the trail was quite dusty and we needed to clean our lens daily. We were able to charge batteries in Namche Bazaar. After that we didn%26#39;t need to recharge our batteries again. We took 5 batteries (3 for SLR and 2 for coolpix) and only used 3 of them. If we had needed to recharge our batteries, there were 2 or 3 other locations we would have been able to based upon solar power.
