This is hard call- after re-reading and re-counting the vacation days it seems that we simply will not have enough time to trek the Jiri-Namche portion since we%26#39;d like to explore the Goyko Valley and go via Cho la Pass ti EBC and back to Lukla
How much are we going to miss by omitting this part of the trek?
How much am I missing by starting EBC from Lukla not Jiri?
Hello Fren,
Explore the gokyo valley and go via cho la pass to Base camp and then back to luka, its seems very long trip. If you have enough time period then nothing be going to miss. If you shorten time period then you can take flight to lukla and then completed all of your desire region.
cheers

How much am I missing by starting EBC from Lukla not Jiri?
I did the entire trek from Jiri (no planes for me!) The first section is very rainforest-like. Lush, steep, beautiful, full of leeches (check for them regularly!) The little villages and single houses along the way are great places to meet locals who speak no English! Don%26#39;t give the kids any chocolate. As far as timing goes, I got to witness people make the round trip from Jiri to EBC in everything from 8 days to 21 days. It depends on how fast you plan to travel.
If you have the time then the Jiri - Lukhla walk is well worth it. It will take about 8 days. It does involve lots of ups and downs as you are going across the grain of the country (By the time you get to Namche you%26#39;ll have done about 8000 metres total of ascent !)
Particularly if you haen%26#39;t been to Nepal before it%26#39;s a wonderful way to acclimatise yourself to the culture - it%26#39;s far less touristy than the Lukhla - EBC section (though there are many good lodges on the route). Since many airlines started flying into Lukhla fewer people appear to be trekking in from Jiri, and the trail feels almost like a road that has been made quieter by the construction of an alternative motorway route.
As a compromise you might consider flying into Paphlu, and then walking approx 4 days up to Lukhla (though anyway avoid Lukhla if you can and stay lower, going through CHaumrikharka to Choplung)
