how long to stay?

Planning a trip to India/Nepal this coming December. Can stay 2 days or 3 1/2. Is there enough to do and is it worth our extra time there? Any expectation of political problems at end of year? Thanks for the responses!

There is certainly enough to do in Kathmandu for 2-3 days.

I would recommend the following:

A trip out to Baktapur

The Garden of Dreams

Getting lost in Thamel

Pashupatinath Temple and Ghats

Swayambunath Temple

Boudanath Stupa (Late pm/early evening)

Kathmandu is an amazing city - visit Boudhanath, Soyambunath and Bhaktapur. I would try and give yourself as long as possible in Kathmandu as it is the most amazing place. I spent a year travelling in India and a year living in KTM and if i had a choice I%26#39;d go back to Nepal anytime. It is a much more chilled place than India and in my opinion more beautiful - visit Pokhara it is incredible beautiful - you can take a bus from KTM it takes about 8hrs.

It%26#39;s a bit disappointing that you don%26#39;t have several days to visit this beautiful country. It%26#39;s magnificence lies in the countryside.

That said, the above-mentioned ideas for visiting Kathmandu are good ones. I am glad we spent about that much time in Kathmandu, given it was our first trip to Nepal, and we still had time to go elsewhere within the country.

Since the Maoists appear to be quite pleased with the results of the elections, I%26#39;d expect the violence to continue to subside, as long as things go their way, over the next several months.

Having just returned last week, I felt very safe in Nepal.

Fortunately, I had 8 days, and found an excellent guide company to assist me with my travels within the country.
